Zarif: Iran ready to draw roadmap for bilateral ties with Norway

Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif in meeting with Secretary General of Norway Foreign Ministry Wegger Christian Strommen here on Monday said that Iran is ready to draw roadmap to expand bilateral ties with Norway upon reciprocal respect.

In the meeting, the two sides discussed bilateral and regional issues.

Zarif pointed to current relations between the two countries and existing opportunities to develop cooperation, especially in the fields of oil and gas.

He described bilateral ties as moving forward in the fields of diplomacy and economy, and called for expansion of relations in other areas like culture and parliament.

On regional problems, Zarif pointed to terrorism, especially Daesh Group, as the main threat for the region and underlined the need to cooperate for eliminating terrorism and extremism.

Strommen, for his part, pointed to Europe obligation to implement JCPOA, and said that Europe supports implementation of JCPOA.

He also said cooperation in the maritime sector is among other fields Norway likes to have cooperation with Iran.

The Norwegian senior diplomat also appreciated Irans efforts in hosting more than three million Afghan refugees.

Strommen called terrorism and extremism as problems and cause of concern in the region, and said that there are similar feeling between the two countries concerning Daesh and terrorist groups.
