Iran FM meets UN human rights commissioner in Geneva
Following his diplomatic meetings in Geneva Irans Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian met and held talks with Volker Türk the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights.
Following his diplomatic meetings in Geneva, Iran's Foreign Minister, Hossein Amirabdollahian met and held talks with Volker Türk, the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights.
While expressing satisfaction with the meeting, Amirabdollahian thanked the UN High Commissioner for his constructive efforts regarding Palestine as well as his attention to joint consultations.
Pointing out that the systematic violation of human rights in Gaza has become the tragedy of the century, Amirabdollahian called for serious and effective measures to stop this tragedy.
Iran's foreign minister described the double-standards practiced by certain countries vis-a-vis human rights as non-constructive.
He described the attention to the humanitarian crisis and the existence of 600 thousand people in the war-torn areas of northern Gaza as an urgent issue.
He also considered the situation in Rafah to be on the verge of becoming a new humanitarian disaster and warned against repeating the disastrous conditions in northern Gaza in Rafah.
Amirabdollahian said: "It is necessary for the United Nations to seriously warn the Zionist regime and the United States in this regard."
Amirabdollahian considered the establishment of a fact-finding committee regarding the crimes of the Zionist regime in the Gaza Strip within the framework of the responsibility of the United Nations Human Rights Council and said: "The United Nations should not be allowed to be discredited as a result of the situation in Gaza."
While expressing his satisfaction with the meeting and the opportunity for joint consultations, Volker Türk expressed regret and concern about what is underway in Gaza and the West Bank. While explaining the efforts of himself and the United Nations regarding Palestine and the situation in Gaza, he expressed dissatisfaction with the results despite the efforts made and said he will continue efforts to reduce the crisis in Gaza and the West Bank and create peace in the region.
Pointing out that the Palestinian crisis has no military solution, he emphasized the necessity of finding a political solution for this crisis.
