Iran's Minister of Foreign Affairs, Seyed Abbas Araghchi, and his Russian counterpart, Sergey Lavrov, met and held talks on the sidelines of the SCO Council of Foreign Ministers Meeting in Tianjin, China.

The two top diplomats reviewed bilateral Tehran-Moscow relations, regional developments following the military aggression of the Zionist regime and the United States against Iran, and followed up on issues of mutual interest discussed during the Iranian Foreign Minister’s recent visit to Moscow and their previous meeting in Rio de Janeiro.

Araghchi, referring to the political smear campaign by the United States and certain European countries against Iran following the aggression by the Zionist regime and the U.S., reiterated the Islamic Republic of Iran’s firm determination to defend the country and hold the aggressors accountable. He emphasized Iran’s legitimate rights to the peaceful use of nuclear energy, including enrichment.

Araghchi further noted the consequences of the Zionist regime and U.S. aggression in discrediting the principles and purposes of the UN Charter, diplomacy, and the non-proliferation regime. He underscored the responsibility of the UN Security Council and all states to fulfill their obligations in preserving regional and international peace and security.

For his part, the Russian Foreign Minister reaffirmed his country’s position in condemning the illegal attacks against Iran, particularly those targeting peaceful nuclear facilities. He emphasized the continuation of bilateral and multilateral consultations aimed at preventing further escalation of tensions and insecurity in the region and expressed Russia’s readiness to assist in this regard, including within international forums, especially the UN Security Council.
