The Foreign Minister of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Seyed Abbas Araghchi, who is in New York to participate in the annual session of the United Nations General Assembly, held talks on Thursday with his Slovenian counterpart, Tanja Fajon, whose country is currently a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council.

During the meeting, the two sides discussed bilateral ties between Tehran and Ljubljana as well as international developments.

The Iranian foreign minister praised Slovenia’s principled stance regarding the genocide in Gaza and the Zionist regime’s aggressive moves in the region.

He emphasized the need for collective international action to halt the crimes committed by the regime in the occupied Palestinian territories and to prosecute and punish the perpetrators.

Araghchi also referred to Iran’s comprehensive efforts to prevent escalation surrounding its nuclear issue. He described the move by three European countries to reinstate previously annulled UN Security Council resolutions against Iran as unjustified and irresponsible, asserting that it aligns with the confrontational and unlawful approach of the US and constitutes a serious disruption to diplomacy.

He reminded all Security Council member states of their responsibility to safeguard diplomacy and the rule of law, expressing hope that they, considering the Iranian nuclear issue and the oppressive actions by the US, would vote in favor of the draft resolution proposed by China and Russia. The resolution, he noted, is an initiative aimed at preventing the reinstatement of the annulled Security Council resolutions against Iran.
