Statement by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs regarding the US attack on an Iranian commercial vessel and the hostage-taking of Its crew and their fami

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Iran condemns in the strongest terms the illegal and brutal act by the terrorist US military in attacking the Iranian commercial vessel "Toska," which occurred on the evening of Sunday, April 19, 2026, near Iranian territorial waters in the Sea of Oman.

This act, which was accompanied by the abduction of the ship's sailors, crew members, and their families, constitutes maritime piracy and a terrorist action. It not only violates the fundamental principles and rules of the United Nations Charter and international law but is also another example of the blatant breach of the ceasefire understanding dated April 8, 2026, and is considered an act of aggression against the Islamic Republic of Iran.

The Islamic Republic of Iran hereby draws the attention of the United Nations Secretary-General, members of the UN Security Council, and the International Maritime Organization to this issue and demands a decisive and serious condemnation and response from international bodies and responsible governments regarding the US criminal act against international commercial shipping.

While warning about the very dangerous consequences of this illegal and criminal US action, the Islamic Republic of Iran emphasizes the necessity of the immediate release of the Iranian vessel, its sailors, crew members, and their families.

Undoubtedly, the Islamic Republic of Iran will use all its capacities to defend Iran's national interests and security and to protect the rights and dignity of Iranians. It is clear that the United States bears full responsibility for the further complication of the situation in the region.
