Iranian FM meets with Italian senator in Rome
Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian on Monday evening met with Ms Stefania Craxi, Head of the Italian Senate Commission for Foreign Affairs and Immigration. The two officials discussed issues of mutual interest at bilateral, regional and international levels.
Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian on Monday evening met with Ms Stefania Craxi, Head of the Italian Senate Commission for Foreign Affairs and Immigration. The two officials discussed issues of mutual interest at bilateral, regional and international levels. Amirabdollahian described his Monday talks with the Italian foreign minister and also his meeting with the Italian industry owners, businesspeople and investors as constructive and fruitful. He added that the issues he discussed with his Italian counterpart included activating parliamentary diplomacy based on protocols signed in the year 2000 regarding parliamentary cooperation between the two countries. The top Iranian diplomat further said the parliaments of Iran and Italy play an important role in helping further expand bilateral ties through approving documents embodying the basis of cooperation between Tehran and Rome. Amirabdollahian also called for speeding up the ratification of the documents by the Italian legislature. The Iranian foreign minister said Tehran supports the resolution of the Ukraine crisis through dialog and political means. He underlined the need for providing humanitarian aid for the Ukrainian people saying that Iran paved the way for talks between the officials of the two countries for this purpose. Amirabdollahian also referred to the sanctions removal talks, saying the Islamic Republic of Iran have put forth initiatives and made intensive efforts to reach a good and lasting deal over the past months and expects the US officials to also adopt a realistic approach in order to help the conclusion of an agreement. The Head of the Italian Senate Commission for Foreign Affairs and Immigration for her part referred to the dire consequences of the Ukraine crisis, especially with regard to energy and food shortage, saying this is threatening world countries including those in the Middle East and Africa. Ms Craxi described Iran’s views about the Ukraine crisis and also about the sanctions removal talks as important. She expressed hope that the international community will experience a more stable situation.
