Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesman Nasser Kanaani has expressed regret over the Ukranian government’s decision to downgrade diplomatic relations with Iran. Kanaani said Kiev’s decision was made based on unconfirmed reports and foreign media propaganda.
The Iranian foreign ministry spokesman pointed to Iran’s clear policy of active neutrality in the war between Ukraine and Russia, reaffirming Tehran’s opposition to war and stressing the need to find a political solution without resorting to violence. Kanaani noted that numerous meetings and contacts between the Iranian foreign minister and his Russian and Ukrainian counterparts over the past months were aimed at resolving the crisis.
The foreign ministry spokesman underlined that Tehran will take a proportionate action in response to the Ukrainian government’s move and urged Kiev to avoid being influenced by third parties that aim to destroy ties between Iran and Ukraine.
