Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian met with Lebanese Prime Minister Najib Mikati on Friday during his trip to Beirut and said holding talks with the Lebanese brothers and exchanging views with them have always been helpful for us.
Amirabdollahian said Lebanon’s security and peace are important to Iran, adding one of the goals in his trip was to stress on Lebanon’s security and development and the country’s political process.
The foreign minister touched on Palestine, saying the recent operation by the Palestinians was 100 percent Palestinian in nature as confirmed by the West, and said, “The move by the Palestinians was a natural reaction to Netanyahu’s crimes, especially in recent months.”
He stressed that Palestine would be different after Operation Al-Aqsa Flood.
Amirabdollahian blamed extremism by Netanyahu and the Israeli government for the current situation, which he said had a great impact on the ground and the decision made by the Palestinians.
He also noted that the unlimited US support for Israel’s ongoing crimes will further exacerbate the situation, adding there are concerns that the war will spill over in the region and new fronts will open.
The Iranian foreign minister also said, “The US calls on everyone, but Israel, to show restraint, and this is unacceptable. They ask everyone to show restraint but they provide Israel with weapons and aid and give Netanyahu a free rein to continue with his crimes.”
“The US wants to give Israel a chance to destroy Gaza, and this is absolutely a big mistake on the part of the US. If the Americans don’t want the war to spread in the region, they need to control Israel,” he added.
Amirabdollahian went on to warn, “If Israel’s crimes are not harnessed, it is not clear what will happen.”
The Iranian foreign minister noted that the Palestinian resistance is powerful and has high capabilities, and warned in case the Israeli crimes continue, they will use their other means.
Amirabdollahian said, considering the current situation in Palestine, the Islamic Republic of Iran has proposed to hold an extraordinary meeting of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) at the foreign ministerial level, adding some countries have welcomed the proposal. He also asserted Iran will continue to follow up on the issue and highlighted the importance of holding a high-level meeting of Islamic countries on Palestine.
For his part, the Lebanese prime minister said the situation in Gaza is tragic and added Lebanon supports the Palestinian rights.
He emphasized diplomatic contacts are important in bringing the situation under control and underlined Iran’s role and its diplomatic efforts to this end.
Mikati said the bloodbath should immediately stop and added, “During my contacts with all parties, I have also emphasized that Israel should immediately be barred from going ahead with its ways.”
He stressed making all efforts to prevent a regional war is an “immediate and crucial necessity.”
