Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian, who is in Geneva to attend the Global Refugee Forum (GRF), has sat down with Faisal bin Farhan, his counterpart from Saudi Arabia.
In the meeting, Amirabdollahian touched upon the good meeting between Iran’s foreign minister and the Saudi Crown Prince, and expressed his gratitude to Saud Arabia for hosting a summit of Islamic and Arab states in Riyadh on Palestine.
Amirabdollahian described Iran and Saudi Arabia as two very important and influential countries in the region, and expressed satisfaction with the promotion of bilateral political ties while underlining the need to further boost mutual relations in economic and trade areas.
He referred to the gradual enhancement of reciprocal ties, saying Iran stands ready to further cement ties on different fronts.
The top Iranian diplomat then touched upon developments in Palestine and the perpetuation of the Zionist regime’s war crimes and genocide against Palestinian citizens in Gaza and the West Bank.
He urged both countries and other Islamic and regional states to make joint efforts to exert intense pressure on the Zionist regime and the U.S. government to put in place an immediate ceasefire and urgently dispatch humanitarian aid to Palestinian people.
The top Saudi diplomat, in turn, said he was pleased with the meeting, and added Tehran-Riyadh relations are on the right path. Faisal bin Farhan said there is positive trend in bilateral ties, adding Saudi Arabia welcomes the promotion of relations between the two countries.
He touched upon the enhancement of political ties between Tehran and Riyadh, and added talks and contacts are fortunately underway in other areas as well. He said both sides’ economy ministers have begun their negotiations and contacts, adding Saudi Arabia embraces that trend.
The Saud foreign minister also said the conclusion of different cooperation agreements between the two countries in different areas is a positive point, adding Riyadh welcomes efforts to follow up and implement the cooperation documents.
Faisal bin Farhan also said he was pleased with Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi’s participation in the Muslim and Arab states’ summit as well as the fruitful meeting between Raisi and the Saudi Crown Prince in Riyadh.
He said Iran and Saudi Arabia have common ground with regards to supporting the Palestinian nation, establishing an immediate ceasefire and sending urgent humanitarian aid, adding the two sides will continue their efforts.
