Iran condemns three European countries US for abusing IAEA against Iran
The spokesperson for the Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs Esmail Baqaei strongly condemned the instrumental use of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA)’s Board of Governors by three European countries and the United States to cast doubt on the peaceful nature of Iran’s nuclear program.
The spokesperson for the Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Esmail Baqaei, strongly condemned the instrumental use of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA)’s Board of Governors by three European countries and the United States to cast doubt on the peaceful nature of Iran’s nuclear program. Rejecting the claims contained in the resolution adopted by the IAEA Board of Governors on Thursday based on a joint proposal by France, the UK, Germany, and the US and relying on the political report of the IAEA Director General, Baqaei described this move as unjustified, baseless, and oppressive, aimed at pressuring Iran to relinquish the legitimate rights and interests of the Iranian nation in the peaceful use of nuclear energy. The spokesperson held the sponsors and designers of the unjust and destructive resolution fully responsible for its consequences and emphasized that the Islamic Republic of Iran will take appropriate measures to safeguard the rights and interests of its people regarding utalization of peaceful nuclear energy in response to this move. Baqaei called the claim of Iran’s non-compliance with its obligations under the Comprehensive Safeguards Agreement completely unfounded and fabricated, noting that such an allegation itself reveals the bad faith and insincerity of the resolution’s authors, as even the highly political report of the IAEA Director General did not raise such a claim. Recalling the long history of misconduct by the three European countries and the US in opposing Iran and obstructing its scientific and economic development –including peaceful nuclear technology – Baqaei stated that for more than two decades, these countries have targeted the great and free Iranian nation with illegal sanctions and unjustified threats under the deceptive pretext of “concerns” about Iran’s peaceful nuclear program. Despite Iran’s comprehensive cooperation to dispel any doubts, including through the JCPOA, they have repeatedly sought to halt or slow Iran’s nuclear program. Nevertheless, relying on the talent and motivation of Iranian youth, the Islamic Republic of Iran has turned these challenges and pressures into an opportunity to strengthen and consolidate indigenous nuclear technology. The spokesperson expressed regret over the biased conduct of the IAEA Director General concerning Iran’s nuclear issue, reflected in misleading claims in his recent report and provocative interviews about Iran’s nuclear program. He stressed the Director General’s direct responsibility for undermining the Agency’s professional credibility and called on him to adhere to the Agency’s statutes and refrain from political behavior. He thanked six countries – China, Russia, Venezuela, Cuba, Nicaragua, and Belarus – for issuing a joint statement responsibly and legally rejecting the said resolution, and also appreciated all countries that opposed the resolution by voting against or abstaining, thereby demonstrating their opposition to the instrumentalization of the IAEA Board of Governors by the four Western countries. Baqaei reaffirmed the determination of the Iranian nation to protect its rights and interests in accordance with the United Nations Charter and the Non-Proliferation Treaty.
