Statement by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Iran on the crime of the attack on Iran’s consulate in Mazar-i-Sharif
Statement by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Iran on the 27th anniversary of the crime of the attack on Iran’s consulate in Mazar-i-Sharif and the martyrdom of Iranian diplomats
In the Name of God, the Most Compassionate, the Most Merciful  The 8th of August marks the anniversary of the unjust martyrdom of Iranian diplomats and a journalist at the Consulate General of the Islamic Republic of Iran in Mazar-i-Sharif, Afghanistan. Twenty-seven years ago on this day, the building of the Consulate General of the Islamic Republic of Iran in Mazar-i-Sharif, Afghanistan, was attacked by armed terrorists, resulting in the martyrdom of eight Iranian diplomats serving at the Consulate—namely, Nasser Rigi, Noorollah Norouzi, Karim Heydarian, Rashid Paryav Fallah, Heydar-Ali Bagheri, Mohammad-Ali Ghiyasi, Majid Nouri Niyarki, and Mohammad-Nasser Naseri—alongside Mahmoud Saremi, a correspondent of the Islamic Republic News Agency (IRNA). Undoubtedly, this terrorist assault constitutes one of the most heinous violations of international law in the field of diplomatic and consular relations, and was met with strong international condemnation, including through United Nations Security Council Resolution 1267. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Iran commemorates the memory of the martyred diplomats and journalist, and beseeches the Merciful God to bestow upon them the highest ranks and His boundless mercy. The Islamic Republic of Iran continues to insist on the necessity of fully uncovering all dimensions of this terrorist crime, including the identification of its perpetrators and masterminds, and the adoption of concrete measures to ensure the administration of justice. The matter remains under serious and active pursuit.
