Iran Eritrea explore deeper ties emphasize Global South unity at UN Assembly
The Foreign Minister of the Islamic Republic of Iran Seyed Abbas Araghchi who is on a visit to New York to take part in the annual session of the United Nations General Assembly met and held talks on Saturday evening with his Eritrean counterpart Osman Saleh Mohammed.

During the meeting, the two sides reviewed bilateral ties between the two countries and explored ways to expand cooperation across various areas of mutual interest. They also exchanged views on regional and international developments. Both parties emphasized the importance of enhanced cooperation among Islamic countries in addressing the shared challenges facing the Islamic world, particularly the unprecedented threat posed by the expansionist and warmongering policies of the Zionist regime. They stressed the urgent need for comprehensive action by Islamic nations and the international community to halt the genocide and hold the leaders of the Zionist regime accountable and punish them. The meeting also underscored the importance of increased collaboration among countries of the Global South and developing nations in the fields of economy and technology, as well as efforts to counter illegal and unilateral sanctions. The ministers highlighted the need for cooperation in international forums, especially the UN Human Rights Council and the General Assembly, and for coordinated positions within groups such as the Friends of the UN Charter and similar coalitions.
