French Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barrot held a telephone conversation with Iran's Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi on Saturday evening to discuss the US-Israeli imposed war against Iran and the current situation in the region.
Iran's top diplomat, pointing out that the United States and the Israeli regime are the sole factors behind the insecurity prevailing over the region and the Strait of Hormuz, emphasized the need for all countries to adopt a responsible approach toward this situation. He called for the unequivocal condemnation of the aggressors' criminal act of attacking Iran, as well as restraint from any measures that could escalate or widen the scope of the conflict.
Araghchi, reaffirming Iran's firm resolve to defend its sovereignty, dignity, territorial integrity, and national security, added: "Iran's defensive actions are directed exclusively against the military bases and assets of the aggressors in the region and should under no circumstances be interpreted as an attack by Iran on regional countries."
The Iranian foreign minister further asserted that the root cause of insecurity across the entire region, including in Lebanon, is the aggression and hegemony-seeking of the Israeli regime. He stated that the restoration of calm in Lebanon depends on an end to the occupation and a cessation of the regime's attacks and aggressions.
The foreign ministers of Iran and France also consulted on certain consular issues.
