Iranian Foreign Minister,
Seyed Abbas Araghchi, held a phone conversation with Sergey Lavrov, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation, discussing the latest regional and international developments in light of the continued aggression by the United States and the Israeli regime.
In this telephone call, Iran’s Foreign Minister, while emphasizing the Islamic Republic of Iran’s inherent right to legitimate defense of its sovereignty, national security, and territorial integrity, strongly condemned the aggressive attacks on the country’s infrastructure, including universities, bridges, and scientific centers.
Araghchi referred to the state of insecurity imposed on the Strait of Hormuz, stating that it results from the US and Israeli regime’s military aggression against Iran. He clarified: “At present, vessels from countries not involved in the military aggression against Iran are transiting the Strait of Hormuz in coordination with the armed forces of the Islamic Republic.”
Iran’s Foreign Minister also condemned the moves by the US and some countries in the Security Council to exert pressure on Iran, stressing that any provocative action by the aggressors and their supporters—including within the UN Security Council regarding the situation in the Strait of Hormuz—will only further complicate the situation. He emphasized that the adoption of a resolution by the Security Council on the Strait of Hormuz would not only fail to resolve any issues but would itself become part of the problem.
Araghchi also condemned the attacks by the US and the Israeli regime on cultural sites, including the Orthodox Church in Tehran, calling these actions a clear violation of international regulations and stressing the need for a clear and decisive response from all countries and international bodies, particularly UNESCO, to these criminal acts.
The Foreign Minister of the Russian Federation, while reiterating his country’s position condemning the continued military aggression against Iran, informed his Iranian counterpart about Moscow’s ongoing contacts and consultations with regional countries aimed at reducing tensions.
Lavrov, emphasizing the necessity for all parties to return to the path of diplomacy and a political resolution to the crisis, announced that Russia has put forward initiatives and proposals to reduce tensions and manage the crisis in the region.
The Foreign Ministers of Iran and Russia also agreed to continue consultations and coordination in bilateral, regional, and international spheres.
