Seyed Abbas Araghchi, the Foreign Minister of the Islamic Republic of Iran, and Vijitha Herath, the Foreign Minister of Sri Lanka, spoke by telephone this evening, Wednesday.   During this telephone call, Iran’s Foreign Minister expressed gratitude for the Sri Lankan government’s efforts in the rescue and recovery operation for the sailors of the destroyer Dena, as well as its assistance in facilitating the repatriation of the blessed remains of the martyrs from that destroyer and the brave servicemen of Iranian vessels.   Outlining the atrocities committed by the United States and the Israeli regime against Iran, Iran’s Foreign Minister described the attack on the destroyer Dena as an “unprecedented war crime” by the United States, and emphasized that the Iranian people will never forget this crime — which constitutes a gross violation of the fundamental rules of international humanitarian law and the 1949 Geneva Conventions — and will use all legal and political capacities to prosecute and punish the perpetrators and those who ordered this war crime.   During the conversation, the Foreign Ministers of Iran and Sri Lanka also consulted on strengthening bilateral relations.
