Qatar’s Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani, who has traveled to Tehran for talks with senior Iranian officials on bilateral relations and regional developments, met and held talks with Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi on Thursday afternoon.Welcoming the continued efforts by regional countries and Iran’s neighbors to help reduce tensions, Araghchi said the current situation is solely the result of U.S. and Israeli military aggression, as well as the continued illegal and interventionist actions by the United States, particularly its maritime blockade and economic terrorism against Iran.Referring to Iran’s principled position on the need to strengthen trust among regional countries in order to establish indigenous regional security mechanisms independent of interference by external actors, Araghchi noted that achieving this goal requires all regional countries to adhere to the principle of good neighborliness and prevent the United States from using their territories and facilities to prepare for and carry out acts of aggression, as well as economic warfare against Iran.Referring to the insecurity imposed on the Strait of Hormuz as a result of the U.S.-Israeli military aggression against Iran—which, regrettably, was accompanied and facilitated by some regional countries—Araghchi stressed that it is impossible to speak of returning to the situation that existed before May 31, 2026, without taking into account the realities on the ground as well as the crimes committed against Iran and the damage inflicted on the country.Araghchi emphasized that Iran had been implementing its commitments under the War Termination Memorandum in good faith, including Clause 5, but that the United States disrupted the implementation process by reneging on its commitments. He added that Washington had recently revealed its hostility and animosity toward the Iranian people more clearly than ever by announcing a new wave of economic terrorism.Araghchi stressed that the Islamic Republic of Iran is resolute and steadfast in pursuing its national interests and security and will use all available capacities to defend its national sovereignty and interests.For his part, Qatar’s prime minister and foreign minister, referring to his country’s principled position on safeguarding regional security and stability, stressed the importance of continuing consultations to reduce tensions and insecurity in the region.
