Iranian, Russian foreign ministers hold consultations in Tehran
Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian and his Russian counterpart Sergei Lavrov discussed a broad range of issues of mutual interest between Tehran and Moscow in their meeting.
Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian and his Russian counterpart Sergei Lavrov discussed a broad range of issues of mutual interest between Tehran and Moscow in their meeting.
The two top diplomats expressed satisfaction with the growing trend of ties and underlined the need to speed up the implementation of agreements signed at the meeting between the presidents of Iran and Russia and also between high-ranking economic officials of the two sides during President Raisi’s visit to Moscow.
Amirabdollahian and Lavrov, among other issues, exchanged views over ways of increasing trade, speeding up the implementation of joint economic projects, facilitating investment, working together to effectively fight illegal sanctions especially in the energy markets, and expanding banking and financial cooperation.
The two foreign ministers also reviewed regional developments in South Caucasus, Afghanistan, Yemen, Syria and Palestine. Amirabdollahian and Lavrov further made coordination about holding the upcoming meeting of the three neighbors and the South Caucasus countries as well as the summit of the presidents of Russia, Turkey and Iran within the framework of the Astana process in Tehran.
Lavrov noted that Russia is opposed to the Zionist regime’s recent attacks against the Damascus airport and civilian targets in Syria. He also underlined the need for supporting Syria’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.
The top Russian diplomat also reaffirmed his country’s support for the revival of the 2015 nuclear deal without any addition or reduction.
Lavrov further gave a report on the latest developments in Ukraine and stressed that some Western countries have exploited Ukraine in order to advance their policy of unilateralism and that they seek to weaken Russia through this.
Amirabdollahian and Lavrov also held talks over boosting Iran's cooperation with regional and international organizations and forums, including the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, the Eurasian Economic Union and BRICS. The Russian foreign minister stressed his country's support in this regard.
