Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesman's reaction to the adoption of an anti-Iran resolution at the United Nations General Assembly

Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesman Nasser Kanaani reacted to the adoption of an anti-Iran resolution at the United Nations General Assembly, which was proposed, as in the past several years, by Canada and sponsored by the European countries and the Zionist regime, saying the resolution is reflective of the duplicity and hypocrisy of its sponsors and lacks legitimacy and credibility.

Kanaani said the hypocritical approach of the resolution's sponsors in using international institutions as a tool to pressure the Islamic Republic of Iran is a clear example of exploiting sublime human rights concepts and values to advance short-sighted political goals.

He referred to attempts by the Western countries to keep up the project to fuel Iranophobia and psychological war against the Islamic Republic, saying, "The sponsors of this resolution, who are themselves violators of the most fundamental and basic principles of human rights in the world, should stop going along with the US administration's economic terrorism against the Iranian people and hosting terrorist grouplets, instead of showing hypocritical care for the Iranian people's human rights."

For the Islamic Republic of Iran, he said, observance of human rights is among the religious, legal and thematic principles and foundations.
Kanaani added that the Islamic Republic of Iran has always been fully serious in promoting human rights and fulfilling its international commitments, and, in order to promote the status of human rights in the world, the country stands ready for dialog and constructive cooperation with all legitimate international organizations and the countries truly interested in strengthening and supporting human rights within the framework of mutual respect, non-discrimination, justice, and away from political objectives.
