Iranian foreign minister meets Lebanon PM in Beirut
Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian, who is in Beirut, has met with Lebanon’s Caretaker Prime Minister Najib Mikati for talks over issues of mutual interest between the two countries.
Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian, who is in Beirut, has met with Lebanon’s Caretaker Prime Minister Najib Mikati for talks over issues of mutual interest between the two countries.
On bilateral cooperation, Amirabdollahian underlined the necessity of expanding relations between Tehran and Beirut in various fields, especially with regard to economic and trade ties given the existing potentials of both sides to promote cooperation.
He added that the Islamic Republic of Iran is ready to work with Lebanon toward solving its energy and electricity crisis.
The foreign minister further stressed that Tehran is ready to share its experience with Beirut and provide it with technical assistance in the fields of construction and operation of power plants as well as related maintenance work. Amirabdollahian also reaffirmed the Islamic Republic of Iran's support for stability of Lebanon and its support for the Lebanese government, nation, resistance and army.
The top Iranian diplomat noted that Lebanon's problems, including the election of its president and the completion of the political process in the country, should be handled and resolved by the Lebanese themselves and through dialogue and consensus among Lebanese political factions. Amirabdollahian pointed out that if foreign help and initiatives are accompanied by goodwill and approved by the Lebanese government and people, they can be provided for the purpose of supporting the Lebanese people's choice, and not interfering in Lebanon’s internal affairs.
The Iranian foreign minister further outlined Iran’s stance on the developments in Palestine, Yemen, Sudan, Afghanistan and Ukraine. Lebanon’s Caretaker Prime Minister Najib Mikati for his part described as important, the ties between his country and Iran. He then explained the current situation in Lebanon and welcomed the normalization deal between Iran and Saudi Arabia. Mikati also explained his views about the positive impacts of the Tehran-Riyadh agreement on regional issues.
He said Iran is an important country in the region and thanked Tehran for its constructive policy on Lebanon. The Lebanese prime minister also stressed the importance of the ties between Beirut and Tehran.
