Iran-Tajikistan new round of political consultations held in Tehran
The second round of political consultations between the Islamic Republic of Iran and the Republic of Tajikistan jointly chaired by Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Ali Bagheri and his Tajik counterpart Farrokh Sharifzadeh was held in Tehran on Wednesday.

During these talks, the two deputy foreign ministers exchanged views on a range of bilateral issues, including ways of strengthening economic relations, promoting cultural and scientific ties, boosting regional and international cooperation, and increasing parliamentary interactions.
In the meeting, Bagheri stressed the Islamic Republic of Iran’s readiness to expand relations with Tajikistan, highlighting the good understandings reached in the first round of political consultations in Tajikistan.
Referring to the importance and priority of the policy of neighborliness in Iran’s foreign relations, Bagheri noted that strengthening cooperation with Tajikistan, which is a Persian-speaking and Muslim nation like Iran, as a key example of the implementation of the policy of neighborliness.
He further spoke about regional and extra-regional security threats, saying causing instability and supporting extremist and terrorist groups in the region is a reality that has been created with the support of the United States, the Zionist regime, and some European countries.
Bagheri said today, synergy among regional countries is necessary to confront the sinister phenomenon of terrorism in an inclusive manner, and that the cooperation between the Islamic Republic of Iran and Tajikistan is necessary for achieving this goal.
Accordingly, the Iranian deputy foreign minister added, the two countries should use the possibilities of regional organizations such as the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, ECO and Non-Aligned Movement more than before.
Bagheri also pointed to the crimes of the Zionist regime in Gaza and, while condemning the genocide committed by this regime, he said the key to establishing peace and stability in the region is to confront the occupation and aggression by the Zionist regime.
Referring to the growing cooperation between Iran and Tajikistan, the Tajik deputy foreign minister, in turn, said his country is ready to boost ties and strengthen cooperation with Iran.
Sharifzadeh highlighted the existence of nearly 200 cooperation documents between the two countries, describing the full and effective implementation of these MoU’s as a proper basis for bolstering cooperation.
He then called for an increase in the volume of trade with Iran.
Sharifzadeh spoke about the history of good cooperation between the two countries in international and regional organizations and forums, underlining the need for them to continue and strengthen bilateral ties as two Persian-speaking countries with a common historical background.
At the end of the meeting, Bagheri and Sharifzadeh underscored the necessity of holding regular political consultations with the aim of speeding up cooperation in various fields.
