Press Release on Iran-India Bilateral Political Consultations Meeting 8 September 2025

 

1- The annual Bilateral Political Consultations Meeting between the regional Director General/Joint Secretary of the Ministries of Foreign/External Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Iran & the Republic of India was held in Tehran on September 8, 2025. The Iranian delegation was headed by Mr. Mohammad Reza Bahrami, Director General for South Asia Division at the Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and the Indian delegation was chaired by Mr. Anand Prakash, Joint Secretary) PAI(, of the Indian Ministry of External Affairs.

 

2- The Director General/Joint Secretary, recalling the 75th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries, emphasized, within the framework set by the leaders of the two countries, to take actions to further develop and deepen relations in line with fulfillment of mutual interests and attainment of shared welfare and prosperity.

 

3- During the meeting, progress made in bilateral cooperation across various fields was reviewed, including connectivity, the International North-South Transport Corridor (INSTC); economic, financial, trade and commercial matters; and other areas of mutual interest. Beyond bilateral subjects, the two sides exchanged views on regional and global developments and emphasized strengthening cooperation within the United Nations as well as regional and international organizations such as the BRICS and the Shanghai Cooperation Organization.

 

4- The two sides expressed satisfaction with the regular and annual holding of political consultations at the regional Director General/Joint Secretary level as a prelude to Foreign Office Consultations at the Deputy Foreign Minister level  of the two countries. They highlighted the importance of maintaining this process and agreed to coordinate efforts accordingly.

 

5- Both Sides agreed that the next meeting of political consultations between the Director General/Joint Secretary of the two ministries will be held next year, hosted by New Delhi, at a mutually convenient time.
