The spokesperson for the Iranian Foreign Ministry, Esmail Baqaei, slammed the ongoing killing and genocide of Palestinians in the Gaza Strip through continuous bombardments and obstruction of the entry of humanitarian assistance.
He underscored the responsibility of the international community and the UN to take immediate and effective measures to stop the crimes and to prosecute war criminals and perpetrators of genocide.
The spokesperson also referred to the recent resolution of the UN General Assembly concerning the advisory opinion of the International Court of Justice (ICJ), which emphasizes the obligation of all states, pursuant to common Article 1 of the 1949 Geneva Conventions, to ensure respect for and implementation of the rules of international humanitarian law.
He strongly condemned the repeated and flagrant violations of international humanitarian law and the commission of war crimes, crimes against humanity, and genocide by the Zionist regime, and stressed the necessity of ending the impunity of the Zionist regime.
Baqaei described the US and other military and political supporters of the Zionist regime as partners and accomplices in the genocide of Palestinians and other crimes committed by the regime in the occupied Palestinian territory, Lebanon, and Syria, and stated that despite the announcement of alleged ceasefires in Gaza and Lebanon, the Zionist regime, backed by the comprehensive support of the US and the indifference of the guarantors of the ceasefires in Lebanon and Gaza, continues to commit brutal crimes in the occupied Palestinian territory and Lebanon.
Baqaei considered the ongoing attacks by the Zionist regime against Lebanon, the assassination of Lebanese citizens, and the destruction of that country’s infrastructure and vital facilities as clear evidence of the aggressive nature of the Zionist regime and its inherent hostility toward the security and development of the countries of the region.
He called for serious action by regional countries and the international community to confront the constant threat posed by the racist Zionist regime to regional and global peace and stability.
