Foreign Minister of Cyprus Constantinos Kombos whose country currently holds the rotating presidency of the European Union held a telephone conversation on Friday with his Iranian counterpart Seyed Abbas Araghchi.

Foreign Minister of Cyprus Constantinos Kombos, whose country currently holds the rotating presidency of the European Union, held a telephone conversation on Friday with his Iranian counterpart Seyed Abbas Araghchi.

The Cypriot foreign minister welcomed the start of a new round of nuclear negotiations between Iran and the US and stressed the importance of continuing dialogue and reducing tensions. Kombos also announced Cyprus’s readiness to provide any assistance in support of this process.

For his part, Iran’s foreign minister criticized misguided approaches by the European Union toward Iran, particularly the recent offensive action by the EU Council of Ministers in blacklisting part of Iran’s armed forces and engaging in unwarranted interference in Iran’s internal affairs. Araghchi described the bloc’s incorrect positions regarding regional developments, including  the genocide in Gaza and the crimes of the Israeli regime against countries in the region, as being inconsistent with the rule of law and respect for the principles and norms of international law.

He called on the EU to seriously reconsider its unconstructive policies.

The Iranian foreign minister further briefed his Cypriot counterpart on the latest developments concerning the Iran–US nuclear negotiations.
