Seyed Abbas Araghchi, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Iran, and Maris Sangiampongsa, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Thailand, met today, Thursday, on the sidelines of the BRICS foreign ministers' meeting in New Delhi, and discussed bilateral relations, regional developments, and the latest situation following the recent imposed war.
In this meeting, referring to the consistently friendly relations between the Islamic Republic of Iran and Thailand, the Iranian Foreign Minister elaborated on the latest regional developments following the military aggression of the US and the Zionist regime against Iran. Noting the history of US bad faith regarding the nuclear agreement, he stated: "The Americans have betrayed the path of diplomacy twice over the past year and launched a military attack against Iran in the midst of negotiations."
Araghchi identified the changing US positions as well as the destructive role of some third parties as among the most important obstacles to reaching an understanding for a definitive end to the war, and emphasized: "The condition for reaching an agreement is that the US reaches the firm conclusion that the goals it could not achieve through war will not be achievable through negotiation either, and that it must refrain from pursuing maximum demands."
The Iranian Foreign Minister also emphasized the importance of dialogue and cooperation among regional countries as a guarantor of lasting stability and security in the Persian Gulf.
The Thai Foreign Minister, referring to the economic consequences of the war and the sharp rise in the prices of oil, energy, chemical fertilizers, and other basic commodities, emphasized that Thailand supports any initiative that contributes to stability, calm, and tension reduction in the region.
He also stressed his country's determination to continue and expand Thailand's long-standing and friendly relations with the Islamic Republic of Iran.
