The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Iran strongly condemns the military attack carried out by the terrorist U.S. military in the early hours of Saturday, June 6, 2026, against radar and coastal surveillance facilities in the Sirik region and on Qeshm Island. These facilities are tasked with safeguarding the country's border security and ensuring the security of navigation in international waterways. The attack constitutes a blatant violation of the ceasefire of April 8 and an act of military aggression against the national sovereignty and territorial integrity of the Islamic Republic of Iran.
This action, which comes as part of the continued hostile and provocative conduct of the U.S. regime against the Islamic Republic of Iran, demonstrates the complete disregard of the U.S. ruling establishment for the fundamental principles of international law and the Charter of the United Nations. Acting within the framework of its inherent right to self-defense, the powerful Armed Forces of the Islamic Republic of Iran responded to this act of aggression with vigilance, determination, and full authority, delivering a proportionate and effective response and preventing the malicious objectives of those behind the attack from being realized.
The repeated violations of the ceasefire by the United States once again prove that the country not only lacks any genuine intention to reduce tensions and return to the path of stability, but also, through its adventurist actions, exposes regional security to serious risks. The United States shall bear full responsibility for all consequences arising from these unlawful actions, as well as for any potential escalation of tensions resulting from them.
While emphasizing the country's inherent and legitimate right to self-defense under Article 51 of the United Nations Charter, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs reiterates that the Islamic Republic of Iran will defend its sovereignty, security, and national interests with all its capabilities and by utilizing all available means. In this regard, the Ministry strongly calls upon the countries of the region to observe the principle of good-neighborliness and to adhere to the fundamental principle of international law that prohibits allowing aggressor parties to use their territory or facilities for planning and carrying out hostile actions against the Islamic Republic of Iran.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs also calls on the Secretary-General of the United Nations, the United Nations Security Council, and other responsible international bodies to respond immediately and effectively to the continued blatant violations of the ceasefire and the unlawful actions of the United States, and to prevent the growing normalization of violations of the United Nations Charter and actions that threaten regional and international peace and security.
