Ministry of Foreign Affairs statement on the U.S. flagrant violation of the war termination memorandum of understanding

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Iran strongly condemns the airstrikes carried out by the terrorist U.S. military on the evening of Friday, June 27, 2026, targeting several locations along Iran's southern coastline. These brutal attacks, which struck Iran's coastal monitoring facilities, constitute a flagrant violation of Article 2(4) of the Charter of the United Nations, as well as a clear breach of Clause 1 of the Memorandum of Understanding on the Termination of the Imposed War, dated June 18, 2026.

Simultaneously, the apartheid  Zionist  regime, in coordination with the United States, launched an attack on Lebanon, which similarly constitutes a clear violation of Clause 1 of the said Memorandum of Understanding.

While underscoring Iran's inherent right to self-defense under Article 51 of the UN Charter, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs affirms that the Islamic Republic of Iran will defend its sovereignty, security, and national interests with full capability. The defensive strikes carried out by the powerful armed forces of the Islamic Republic of Iran against targets associated with the aggressive U.S. forces were conducted on this very basis. It is self-evident that the responsibility for the consequences of this situation lies with the aggressor and perfidious U.S. regime, as well as any parties that in any way complicit in the perpetration of aggressive acts by the United States against Iran.

In this connection, the Ministry emphasizes the necessity for all states situated on the southern littoral of the Persian Gulf to adhere to the principle of good neighborliness and to observe the fundamental tenet of international law prohibiting the use of their territory and facilities by aggressor parties for the commission of aggressive acts against the Islamic Republic of Iran.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs also calls upon the Secretary-General of the United Nations, the Security Council, and other responsible international bodies not to remain indifferent to the egregious violation of fundamental principles and rules of the UN Charter and international law by the United States, and to fulfill their legal and moral responsibilities with respect to regional and international peace and security.
