Iran FM Araghchi meets with Italian counterpart in New York

During the meeting, the two sides discussed and exchanged views on Iran-Italy bilateral relations as well as regional and international developments.
The Iranian Foreign Minister explained the Islamic Republic of Iran’s views on international developments, warning of the dangerous consequences of the normalization of lawlessness and the United States’ aggressive unilateralism for the rule of law. He stressed the importance of all countries, particularly European countries, fulfilling their international legal obligations in this regard.
Araghchi described the hosting of US military bases by some European countries, including Italy, and any cooperation in preparing for or carrying out acts of aggression against Iran as highly dangerous and qtantamount to complicity in aggression, saying that such actions entail international responsibility for the host or complicit states.
Referring to the continuation of aggressive and destabilizing actions by the United States and the Israeli regime in West Asia, the Iranian Foreign Minister noted that the increase in fuel and commodity prices in global markets is a direct result of the US-Israeli military aggression against Iran, adding that any responsible country should hold the United States accountable for continuing its adventurist actions and threatening commercial shipping in the Persian Gulf region and the Strait of Hormuz.
The Foreign Minister, elaborating on Iran’s responsible approach to regional developments, including its participation in diplomatic processes that were at one point hosted by Italy, recalled the fact that the United States committed military aggression against Iran in the midst of diplomatic negotiations, destroying the diplomatic processes, and regrettably, European countries, instead of condemning the aggression, adopted a policy of appeasement toward the aggressor.
Araghchi stressed that Iran regards diplomacy as an effective tool for defending its national sovereignty and legitimate interests, and that just as it has acted decisively in repelling acts of aggression, it has also remained committed to and acted in good faith in using the instrument of diplomacy.
Regarding human rights, particularly women’s rights, the Foreign Minister criticized the double standards of some European countries, stating that those who remained silent in the face of the most blatant violations of human rights by the Israeli occupying regime in occupied Palestine, remained indifferent to the US and Israeli crimes against the Iranian people, including in Minab and Lamerd, and are now supporting US economic terrorism against the Iranian people have no standing to lecture others on human rights.
The Italian Foreign Minister, for his part, stressed Italy’s commitment to international peace and security and called for redoubled efforts by all parties to reduce tensions.
