FM Araghchi meets with EU Foreign Policy chief

Seyed Abbas Araghchi Foreign Minister of the Islamic Republic of Iran and Ms. Kaja Kallas the European Union’s foreign policy chief met and held talks on Tuesday on the sidelines of the annual session of the United Nations General Assembly.

During the meeting, the latest regional and international developments, including developments related to the Ukraine conflict, developments in West Asia in light of the continued aggressive actions and economic war by the United States against Iran, as well as the consequences of the United States’ aggressive unilateralism for international peace and security, were discussed and views were exchanged.

The Iranian Foreign Minister stressed the importance of the European Union playing a constructive role in international developments and refraining from approaches based on double standards and appeasement in the face of US bullying.

Araghchi also, referring to Iran’s practical commitment to diplomacy to achieve peace and security at the regional level, noted that the repeated breaches of commitments by the United States have been the sole factor disrupting diplomatic processes, adding that the European Union, regrettably, has also on numerous occasions, instead of adhering to its professed principles, including the principle of the rule of law and respect for human rights, chosen the path of appeasement in the face of US bullying, which will in no way contribute to international peace and security.

The two sides also exchanged views on a range of issues of mutual interest.
