FMs Araghchi Odongo discuss strengthening Iran-Uganda partnership across key sectors

The Foreign Minister of the Islamic Republic of Iran Seyed Abbas Araghchi who is in New York to attend the annual session of the United Nations General Assembly met and held talks on Saturday afternoon with his Ugandan counterpart General Odongo Jeje Abubakhar.


The Foreign Minister of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Seyed Abbas Araghchi, who is in New York to attend the annual session of the United Nations General Assembly, met and held talks on Saturday afternoon with his Ugandan counterpart, General Odongo Jeje Abubakhar.

During the meeting, the two sides discussed bilateral relations and ways to expand cooperation in various fields including economy, trade, technology, and agriculture. The two ministers also exchanged views on strengthening coordination and collaboration between the two countries within international organizations.

Iran’s foreign minister emphasized the high importance Iran places on expanding relations with developing countries, particularly in Africa, and expressed Iran’s readiness to enhance bilateral cooperation across all sectors.

The foreign ministers of Iran and Uganda also exchanged views on international developments. Araghchi praised Uganda’s efforts and initiatives in its role as chair of the Non-Aligned Movement, and stressed the need for the movement to play a more effective role in confronting unilateralism and violations of international law, especially the unjust sanctions imposed on developing countries.

Uganda’s Foreign Minister, reaffirming his country’s principled stance and that of the Non-Aligned Movement, condemned the military aggression by the Zionist regime and the US against Iran.

He denounced the instrumental use of the UN Security Council to exert pressure on Iran and emphasized Uganda’s support for the right of all member states of the Non-Aligned Movement to peacefully utilize nuclear energy.
