Araghchi French FM discuss Iran-France ties regional and international developments

Seyed Abbas Araghchi Foreign Minister of the Islamic Republic of Iran who is in New York to attend the annual session of the United Nations General Assembly met and held talks with French Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barrot on Tuesday afternoon on the sidelines of the session.

The two sides discussed and exchanged views on developments related to Iran-France diplomatic relations, as well as regional and international developments.

Iran’s Foreign Minister criticized France’s interventionist positions toward Iran and stressed the need for the French Embassy to respect Iran’s domestic laws and regulations.

The Foreign Minister also described France’s positions on regional developments, particularly regarding the US and Israeli military aggression against Iran, as unacceptable. Referring to France’s double standards regarding human rights, he noted that France cannot claim to care about human rights while remaining silent in the face of the US and Israeli crimes against humanity against the Iranian people and the killing of Iranian women and children, and while cooperating in the implementation of the US’s illegal sanctions against the Iranian people.

Araghchi stressed that the Islamic Republic of Iran seeks relations based on mutual respect and mutual interests with all countries, including France, but will act seriously and decisively in defending its interests and national objectives.
