Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi and Portuguese Foreign Minister Paulo Rangel met and held talks on Thursday afternoon on the sidelines of the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York.
During the meeting, the foreign ministers of Iran and Portugal exchanged views on the most important international developments and bilateral issues of mutual interest.
The Iranian foreign minister, outlining the ongoing developments in the region, said the insecurity in the Strait of Hormuz and disruption to shipping were a direct result of the aggressive actions of the United States and the Israeli regime, stressing that restoring maritime security in the region requires an end to the US’s destabilizing actions and economic terrorism.
Araghchi stressed that the European Union and its member states should adopt an independent and responsible approach, in line with international law, toward developments in West Asia.
