Sey morning addressed ambassadors, heads of diplomatic missions and representatives of international organizations based in Tehran, outlining the Islamic Republic of Iran’s positions on regional developments and providing a report on the diplomatic activities of the Iranian delegation attendied Abbas Araghchi, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Iran, on Sundayng the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly.
Referring to the Islamic Republic of Iran’s effective and assertive presence at the UN General Assembly, the Foreign Minister outlined the key activities carried out during his stay in New York, including consultations with the presidents and foreign ministers of more than 60 countries and senior officials of regional and international organizations, as well as talks with think tanks and media outlets.
The Foreign Minister, stressing the Islamic Republic of Iran’s determination to safeguard Iran’s rights and national interests, provided explanations about Iran’s proposed initiative to restore security to the Strait of Hormuz within seven days, emphasizing that the world has clearly witnessed Iran’s continued goodwill and seriousness in using diplomacy to prevent an escalation of tensions.
Araghchi added: “It became clear to everyone at this session that the Islamic Republic of Iran is serious about pursuing diplomacy, just as it is serious and determined in defending itself.”
Elaborating on the Islamic Republic of Iran’s principled position regarding US excessive demands, the Foreign Minister stressed that if the adversaries once again choose the path of military confrontation and war, Iran’s response will be much stronger and more decisive than in the past.
Araghchi also condemned the disgraceful conduct of US officials toward the delegation of the Islamic Republic of Iran, including the claim that members of the delegation had been expelled. He noted that the entry and departure of the Iranian delegation took place according to the previously announced schedule. Nevertheless, US officials, in an attempt to compensate for their failure to portray Iran as isolated, resorted to fabrications and claimed that the Iranian delegation had been expelled. He said this was, on the one hand, an overt admission of the United States’ violation of its international obligations as the host country of the United Nations and, on the other, an indication of US officials’ anger over the Islamic Republic of Iran’s effective presence at the most important international event.
Elsewhere in his remarks, the Foreign Minister referred to meetings held with neighboring countries, including the Persian Gulf states, and stressed Iran’s decision to continue the process of building trust among regional countries based on the principle of good-neighborliness, with the aim of strengthening cooperation and coordination to promote regional peace and security.
He also referred to meetings with European counterparts and stressed that the Islamic Republic of Iran had conveyed its positions to European foreign ministers on the need for European countries to adopt a responsible and independent approach toward issues concerning West Asia. Referring to repeated acknowledgments by NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte of the direct and extensive participation of European countries in the illegal and aggressive attacks by the United States and Israel against Iran, the Foreign Minister called on European countries to be held accountable for their role in planning and carrying out the US and Israeli regime’s military aggression against Iran.
The Foreign Minister, condemning the inhumane and illegal US sanctions against Iran, stressed that sanctions, pressure and threats cannot undermine the Iranian nation’s determination to defend its rights and dignity.
