Iranian FM Holds Phone Talks with Malaysian PM on Regional Developments

-

Anwar Ibrahim, Prime Minister of Malaysia, held a telephone conversation with Seyed Abbas Araghchi, Foreign Minister of the Islamic Republic Iran, to discuss regional developments following the military aggression by the United States and the Israeli regime against Iran.

During the call, the Malaysian prime minister expressed condolences to the government and people of Iran over the martyrdom of the Leader of the Islamic Revolution and a number of Iranian citizens in the course of the brutal attack by the United States and the Israeli regime against Iran.

Anwar Ibrahim also strongly condemned the military aggression by the United States and Israel against the Islamic Republic of Iran, describing it as contrary to international rules, principles, and moral norms.

For his part, Araghchi thanked Malaysia for its message of condolence and its stance condemning the U.S. and Israeli military aggression against Iran and the killing of the country’s leader and Iranian citizens. He also outlined the crimes committed by the United States and the Israeli regime against the Iranian people and emphasized that Iran’s brave armed forces will defend the country’s national sovereignty and territorial integrity with full determination.

Referring to the United States’ misuse of the territory of some regional countries to plan, execute, and support aggressive operations against Iran, the Iranian foreign minister stressed that, in accordance with the principles of international law and Article 51 of the UN Charter, the Islamic Republic of Iran considers itself obliged to defend its national sovereignty and territorial integrity. On this basis, he said, military bases and assets of the aggressors in the region are regarded as legitimate targets.

Araghchi further noted that the Islamic Republic of Iran harbors no hostility toward the countries along the Persian Gulf and remains committed to a policy of good neighborliness and friendship with them. He added that it is regrettable that the territory of Muslim countries in the region has been exploited during the holy month of Ramadan by U.S. aggressors to launch attacks against a Muslim country and kill Muslims.

The Malaysian prime minister also referred to his ongoing political consultations with leaders of regional countries and called for an immediate halt to the war of aggression and the restoration of peace and stability in the region, adding that Malaysia will spare no effort in this regard.
