Referring to Iran’s longstanding efforts to build trust and cooperation among the countries of the region in order to strengthen peace and stability in the region, free from the harmful and divisive interference of actors from outside the region, the Foreign Ministry Spokesperson described the initiative to hold a meeting of foreign ministers of the littoral states of the Persian Gulf and the Sea of Oman as an important development in this regard. He expressed hope that the event would pave the way for greater understanding among the countries of the region and help strengthen shared regional security.

According to Baghaei, the meeting will be held in Oman on Monday with the participation of Iran, Iraq and other littoral states of the Persian Gulf. In addition to other regional issues, the meeting will also discuss and exchange views on the outcome of the Iran-Oman negotiations regarding the designation of safe routes for commercial shipping through the Strait of Hormuz.

The Foreign Ministry Spokesperson also recalled the understanding reached between Iran and Oman regarding temporary shipping routes in the Strait of Hormuz, stressing that the Islamic Republic of Iran considers itself committed to efforts to ensure the security of shipping in the Strait of Hormuz. However, he said that, naturally, as long as the aggressive actions and unlawful interference by the United States, including the naval blockade and economic warfare, continue, the security of shipping in the Strait of Hormuz cannot be guaranteed.
