UN Special Envoy for Yemen Hans Grundberg, who is in Tehran at the head of a delegation for consultations over the latest situation in Yemen, has met with Ali Asghar Khaji. During the meeting, Khaji and Grundberg discussed the latest state of political talks, peace prospect and exchange of prisoners in Yemen.

During the meeting, Khaji outlined Iran’s efforts to help lift the blockade on the Yemeni people and establish a truce and fair peace in Yemen. He said the Islamic Republic of Iran believed from the very beginning that the Yemen crisis had no military solution and that the crisis had to be resolved through peaceful means and political discussions.
Khaji further stressed the need to speed up the adoption of a pragmatic strategy to resolve the Yemen crisis, saying that improvement of the humanitarian situation in Yemen must be the top priority for the UN and other players in the country.
Grundberg also pointed to the recent agreement between Iran and Saudi Arabia to resume diplomatic relations and noted that the development will have positive implications for all regional countries including Yemen.
